Upper Wekiva River

Belted Kingfisher

Had a sub par paddle at the Upper Wekiva River. Still managed to get a few nice pics. I will blame it on the late start. Was at Wilson's Landings after 9 AM. Went up river to the South a little farther than the entrance to Wekiva Falls, where four motor boats went by me. Turned around right there and then paddled past the bridge over the river.

Salt Springs Run

Salt Springs Run Bald Eagle

Had a bittersweet paddle at the waters of the Salt Spring Run today. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Let us see. Rain, battery one dead after 10 minutes, battery 2 going dead after maybe 20 minutes. Good thing that did not go too far on the Salt Springs Run. A pair of Bald Eagles made it fun for me.

The forecast had a 15% chance of rain in the area. Not sure why I am even surprised that not long after I did put in it came down hard. Luckily for me I had decided to stay close to the marina just in case so spent the one hour rain delay under a roof in the marina and not on the broad run. My first battery died shortly after the delay. So replaced it and kept paddling towards Lake George, which was the original plan. Here are some pics...

This is how 15% chance of rain looked like!!!!!!!!!!!

Was going down the run when saw a Bald Eagle drying its wings, something new for me as I had never seen an eagle doing that. Was shooting pics to it when realized my battery indicator was flashing a low battery warning. What? Really? Decided to stay with the eagle for the duration. It flew to another tree where its companion was drying its wings too. So had a two for one until one left and then the other one.

With my battery agonizing decided to go back to the marina and call it a day. Here is how it looked by that time. Absolutely stunning...
