Yellow Crowned Heron |
First paddle of 2015 did not go as planned in any ways. Woke up thinking going to Silver River but wifey asked to go somewhere else: The Chassahowitzka River (The Chaz). I was more than happy to comply with the request as my most recent paddle at the Chaz was simply awesome but this one did not come close to be a good one.

The Chaz was very low and fast. We hit the bottom several time even in the main channel. Motor boats were having the same problem. The algae and the wind made it hard to move even going downstream. With that in mind, and the strong breeze coming from the North, we cut the paddle short and decided to call it a day after two hours. Here are the pics of what we saw...

This is it for this one. We did not post as much by the end of the year and this is only our first one of 2015. We have been dealing with some pending issues but things are improving so you can expect more posts. Consider yourself invited for the next Views From Our Kayak...
Chassahowitzka River |
What an awesome shot of the pelican and fish. At the right place, at the right time.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS!!!!! Should have been the opening but did not realize it until took a closer look. Pure luck!!!!!!
DeleteLooks like a pretty good day to get all these in two hours. Great shots; thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAs always, the pictures are awesome. The needle fish may disagree. You must have hit low tide.
ReplyDeleteThe first low tide was at 11:24 am according to http://www.tides4fishing.com/us/florida-gulf-coast/chassahowitzka-chassahowitzka-river
We started the paddle at 8:30 sharp and it was really low already. I tried to paddle up river to the sisters' spring but scrape the bottom just out of the launch area. Wifey cannot paddle too hard so did not push the issue and turned around. It was tough all over with the river low levels and the algae. Had to come out of the kayak and push it a couple of times.
DeleteThe Chaz is a long way to travel only to be disappointed. I haven't been there in years, as my last trip was awful due to an airboat. Before that, I'd had some great trips there.
ReplyDeleteStill, you got some good pictures, as always.
The Lynx (?) header picture is stunning! I missed where you took it? Just wow...Lots of great bird pics too!!
ReplyDeleteThe Bobcat, at least this is how I call it, was taken at Snake Creek near Blue Springs State Park. Here is the link to the post if you want to see it. Thanks!!!!!
