Juvenile Little Blue Heron |
After yesterday's fiasco at Crystal River still had a bad taste this morning. Had no plans to go out today but by mid morning was so bored that decided to go kayaking, just to have a nice relaxation time. So went to a place that should not be as crowded as the place we were yesterday. Wifey did not want to come so went in another solo paddle. It worked. Had the river to myself, saw only one pontoon boat with two occupants, and had a very nice time in one of my favorites.

Started my paddle at 12:06 PM and finished three hours later. It was a short one, as you can see. Did paddle West of the small island North of Katie's. Had to push myself thru the reeds but is passable. The Wekiva is low, clear, not too fast. There is not too much to say about this trip so will share the pics with you. Any specific questions please feel free to leave me a comment and I will try to answer ASAP. The pics are in the order I shot them. Here we go...

Sorry I wont be visiting your area this year.. Have a great 2013 & thanks for sharing the views from your kayak!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your bird photos.
ReplyDeleteCindy, You have a super 2013. Hopefully you will come soon to this area.
ReplyDeleteSherry, glad you like the pics. Now that you mentioned birds I realized that it was a rare gator-less paddle at the Wekiva River. That does not happen often.
We didn't see any large gators yesterday, but quite a few small ones and lots of turtles for New Year's Day.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, as always. I especially liked the immature Little Blue. Nature is amazing. Why are white ibises brown when young? And why can't Little Blues be blue from the beginning, so they'd blend in with their elders?
I have often noticed Little Blue Herons and White Ibises feeding together---the Little Blues stabbing at their food and the Ibises stirring along the bottom---their efforts must be complementary.
Thanks Joanne. Somewhere I did read that other egrets and herons seem to tolerate the presence of the immature Little Blue Herons better than they tolerate the presence of other herons. Maybe the cuteness factor? Who knows.
DeleteFor the record...I am a fan of your Facebook posts. Your pictures are superb!!!!!!
